Kitchen towers for toddlers who want to help

Our oldest watched us cook from up there and helped make pizzas. It was heavy and awkward, but it worked well, so our little one could join in.

Quick answer

I'd go with the Guidecraft. It is wood, it folds flat, and it needs a 23-by-23-inch patch of floor when it is open. Need more heights? The Little Partners has four. Want plastic that wipes clean? That is the Simplay3. The Piccalio turns into a table and chair, though owners say toddlers climb on the table instead of sitting at it. If you're buying used, read the recall notices at the bottom first.

Little Partners Explore ’N Store Tower, Soft White

We had a Little Partners tower, I think the original, so this isn’t the exact one we used. Our oldest was about 3 or 4 when he used it at the counter, and the little one used it too. They stirred, sprinkled cheese on pizzas and helped with muffins. It worked well, but it was heavy, it took up space and it got in the way, and after cooking I put it back in the basement. The one on this page has four heights, and only the bottom step folds.

Before you buy

  • Platform height adjustability: Little Partners has the most settings, Guidecraft has two, and Simplay3 and Piccalio have a fixed standing height.
  • Footprint and storage: Guidecraft folds down and Simplay3 folds, but Little Partners folds only its lower step.
  • Weight capacity and stability: Guidecraft lists a 125-pound limit. Check the limit for the other three on their pages.
  • Any product: check current recall information before buying — the kids' product recall tracker lists recent CPSC recalls of children's products.

Safety and recalls

Whichever one you buy, stay next to your toddler while they use it.

  • Guidecraft Classic Kitchen Helper: CPSC recall 26-490 covers certain Classic and Contemporary towers sold June 2022 to October 2023, because the platform can loosen or detach. Look at the item number and the lot number on the sticker under the platform. If both match the notice, stop using it and ask Guidecraft for free repair parts. CPSC
  • Simplay3 Toddler Tower Folding Step Stool: CPSC recall 23-265 covers older towers, models 41807-01, -02 and -03, dated November 2018 to June 2023, because kids can fall. The model number is on the base. If you've got one, stop using it, keep it away from the kids and ask Simplay3 for free stabilizing bases. The current 224030-01 isn't on the list. CPSC

How I narrowed it down

  • Removed the Cosco Kitchen Stepper after confirming CPSC recall 25-412 and excluded the separately recalled Boon PIVOT.
  • For every remaining tower, confirmed the exact current model, age range, weight guidance, dimensions, platform adjustment and how it stores.
  • Kept Simplay3 only after separating the current tower from the older recalled one.
  • Checked Guidecraft against CPSC recall 26-490 (May 2026). Affected towers require both a listed item and lot number; owners should stop use and request free repair parts.
  • Our family used a Little Partners Kids Learning Tower, I think the original, not the Explore ’N Store listed here, so no product on this page is marked personally tested.

I'm Matt, a dad of two boys. If we've used something at home, the card says personally tested. The rest I read up on. I keep a weekly list of kids' product recalls. How I pick.
