Our recommendations

Mini Micro Deluxe / Micro Mini Deluxe
Our family’s current preschool pick. The orange Mini Micro Deluxe worked well for our younger son. Micro still sells an adjustable three-wheel Mini for ages 2–5, but confirm the exact variant and fit before buying, especially secondhand.

- Our orange one worked well for the younger brother, and the owner photos show the adjustable T-bar, Mini Micro branding, low deck and three-wheel layout
- Owners keep describing the same thing: they tried a Mini and returned a cheaper Amazon scooter, calling the difference in roll and sturdiness night and day
- Micro sizes it for ages 2-5, and the handlebar adjusts from about 19 to 27 inches off the ground

Nextsport GOMO 3 Wheel Scooter
The GOMO was light, easy to carry and fun for our older son, but wheel hardware came loose and wet braking was weaker. Current product support is uncertain. I would choose the Mini Micro Deluxe for a new preschool scooter and treat our GOMO experience as a caution.

Razor A Kick Scooter
For a coordinated 5- or 6-year-old on a budget, the Razor A is the one to get. If balance is still shaky, stick with the GOMO or Micro Mini.

- It folds flat with Razor’s original mechanism, small enough for a trunk or a hook in the garage
- The aluminum frame is under 6 lb and still takes riders up to 143 lb
- Maintenance is close to nothing with adjustable bars and a simple rear fender brake

Best for older or taller riders
Razor A5 Lux Scooter
The A5 Lux is the strongest fit for a confident rider 8 and up who has outgrown compact scooters. Choose the Micro Mini for a younger rider who still needs three-wheel stability.
Check priceWorth knowing.
- Owners often mention play and rattle in the front end and stem. Some pad the metal contact points or upgrade the clamp to quiet it
- The big 200mm urethane wheels roll over seams and cracks more smoothly than 98mm wheels
- It’s rated to 220 lb and the handlebar goes taller, so teens and even parents can borrow it

Two-wheel or three-wheel: which scooter fits your kid
For most families the choice is between a steady three-wheel lean-to-steer scooter and a faster two-wheel kick scooter. Let the rider’s balance decide, not the age on the box.
Match the rider
- Ages 2-5, new riders
- The Mini Micro Deluxe our younger son used and the GOMO our older son used are three-wheel lean-to-steer scooters. Micro sizes the current Mini line for ages 2–5. The GOMO also fits that stage, but its hardware and wet-braking limits make it a caution rather than our new-purchase pick.
- Ages 5-8, confident gliders
- Once a kid coasts on one foot, a two-wheeler like the Razor A makes sense. It steers with the handlebars and folds for the trunk.
- Ages 8+, taller riders
- Big-wheel two-wheelers like the Razor A5 Lux are faster and smoother over sidewalk seams, and hard on a hesitant rider. The handlebar should reach about waist height.
Before you pick
- Watch your kid glide. Coasting on one foot means they’re ready for two wheels.
- Hold the published rider weight limit up against your child’s weight today, not their age.
- For a new rider, the grips should sit near waist height.
- Think about where the scooter travels. Folding or low weight matters if it goes in a trunk, up stairs or on the school run.
- Before every ride, check the wheel fasteners, clamps, brake and tire wear, and stick to smooth, dry, flat pavement away from traffic.
Safety and recalls
How I narrowed it down
- Verified product identity, intended use, age guidance, and care details for four kids scooters.
- Checked the photographed GOMO against its owner manual, the archived retailer listing and the ASIN we bought, plus its branding, wheel layout, colors and adjustment hardware.
- Before marking the orange family scooter as personally tested, we matched its Mini Micro branding, adjustable T-bar, deck and three-wheel layout to the Mini Micro Deluxe / Micro Mini Deluxe family.
- On September 2, 2026, we searched the full CPSC recall export for GOMO and Nextsport. No exact scooter recall came up in that point-in-time search.
- Kept the owner’s experience separate from the manual. Yes, ours went through the odd puddle. The recommendation still follows the manual: avoid water, excessive downhill speed, night riding and traffic.
- Looked for the complaints parents only have after buying, mostly fit and stability for newer riders, plus adjustability, protection and storage.
I'm Matt, a dad of two boys. If we've used something at home, the card says personally tested. The rest I read up on. I keep a weekly list of kids' product recalls. How I pick.
