Aden + Anais Cotton Muslin Swaddle Blankets, 4-Pack
The Aden + Anais four-pack is for nursing, a spare in the diaper bag and warm stroller rides while the baby is awake. Not everyone wants a stack of muslin, and Burt’s Bees Baby Hello Moon is the single-blanket alternative.

- Owners on r/BabyBumps say the squares stay in use long after swaddling ends, as stroller blankets, burp cloths and changing-pad layers.
- Several owners report a lot of lint on the first wash and the odd dryer snag. Their advice is to wash new swaddles on their own.
- You get four 44-by-44-inch squares, so there’s already a spare for the diaper bag or the daycare cubby.

Burt’s Bees Baby Hello Moon Reversible Blanket
Hello Moon suits the baby stage and fits in a diaper bag. A sprawling toddler will outgrow it, and the bigger Little Unicorn quilt lasts longer.

Little Unicorn Original Cotton Muslin Quilt
The Mushrooms quilt is the nicest blanket in this group, whether it goes out as a gift or stays home for floor time. For cheap spares, the Aden + Anais four-pack makes more sense.

Copper Pearl Knit Swaddle Blanket, Gage
Copper Pearl’s Gage makes sense for newborn photos and as a gift. It also adds warmth while you hold the baby, provided someone watches how the stretchy fabric sits. Aden + Anais muslin is airier for everyday swaddling.
Check priceWorth knowing.
- Owners put the price at about $25 a blanket, well above a muslin multi-pack.
- Because the knit stretches, a snug swaddle is easier to get than with woven muslin.
- At 46 by 46 inches it’s the biggest swaddle-size square here, so it keeps wrapping as the baby grows.

Can babies sleep with blankets?
For infant sleep, use a firm, flat sleep surface with only a fitted sheet. The AAP and CPSC advise keeping loose blankets and other soft objects out of the crib, bassinet, or play yard; a breathable fabric does not create an exception.
- Worried about warmth? Use properly fitted sleep clothing, following its current manufacturer instructions, instead of a loose blanket.
- If you swaddle, follow current AAP guidance and stop once the baby shows signs of trying to roll. Never use a weighted swaddle or a weighted blanket.
- Awake time is a different matter. A blanket can cover supervised floor time or add warmth while a caregiver holds the baby, and it goes to daycare only if the provider’s rules allow it. They make good gifts, too.
- A retailer’s age label is not safe-sleep clearance. For advice about your own child, ask your pediatrician.
Common questions
Can babies sleep with a blanket in their crib or cot?
No. The AAP and CPSC say a baby should sleep on a firm, flat surface with only a fitted sheet, and no loose blankets in the crib, bassinet or play yard. Breathable muslin isn’t an exception. For an older baby, ask your pediatrician when a blanket is okay rather than going by the age on a product label.
What is a good breathable blanket for a stroller or pram?
Of these four, the Aden + Anais muslin four-pack breathes best. Its 44-by-44-inch squares fold flat for warm-weather rides, but thin muslin isn’t warm, so cold days need a second layer. Only use a stroller blanket while the baby is awake and supervised, secured over the legs and kept away from the face and the stroller opening.
What is the best baby blanket?
Start with the Aden + Anais muslin four-pack, four machine-washable swaddles for stroller rides, nursing and backup, though they breathe better than they warm. For one simple organic cotton blanket, get the Burt’s Bees Baby Hello Moon. The 47-by-47-inch Little Unicorn quilt is the gift, and the Copper Pearl knit is the stretchy swaddle.
How I narrowed it down
- Matched each blanket to its listing, then checked the fabric, the intended use and the size.
- Kept the muslin four-pack out of a head-to-head with the Little Unicorn gift quilt or the Copper Pearl knit, since people buy them for different reasons.
- Kept every infant sleep statement apart from the awake uses, such as supervised stroller rides and floor time.
I'm Matt, a dad of two boys. If we've used something at home, the card says personally tested. The rest I read up on. I keep a weekly list of kids' product recalls. How I pick.
